Go Fish! - Player Command Guide
Game Setup Commands
!gofish Action: Opens a new game lobby.
Details: This is the initialization command. It signals the bot to sit in the #gofish channel and wait for players. A game cannot start until the lobby is opened.
!join Action: Enters you into the current lobby.
Details: Use this after !gofish has been called. The bot supports multiple human players. If only one person joins, the Bot (Dealer) will automatically join to act as the opponent.
!start Action: Deals the cards and begins the match.
Details: Once everyone is in the lobby, this command shuffles the virtual deck, deals 7 cards to each player, and announces who goes first.
Gameplay Commands
!ask <nick> <rank> Action: The primary move of the game.
Usage: !ask Dealer 9 or !ask Player2 King
Details: You must have at least one card of the rank you are asking for. If the target has any cards of that rank, they must hand them all over to you, and you get a Bonus Turn. If they don't, they say "GO FISH!" and you draw from the deck.
!cards Action: Shows your current hand.
Details: To keep the game fair, the bot will send you a Private Notice containing your cards. This prevents other players in the channel from seeing your hand.
!status Action: Displays the current game state.
Details: Shows how many cards are left in the deck, how many "books" (sets of 4) each player has completed, and how many cards are currently in everyone's hands.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
!draw or !fixfish Action: Manually triggers the "Self-Healing" logic.
Details: If a player’s hand becomes empty while the deck still has cards, the game might "hang" because that player has nothing to ask for. These commands force the bot to check for empty hands and force-draw a card from the deck to resume play.
!stopfish Action: Ends the game immediately.
Details: Used to kill a stuck session or end a game early. It clears all game data from the bot's memory, allowing a fresh lobby to be opened.
!fishhelp Action: Lists available commands in the channel.
Details: A quick reference for players who forget the syntax while the game is active.
Pro-Tips for the Web Guide:
Rank Syntax: Explain that the bot accepts both numbers and letters (e.g., !ask Dealer A or !ask Dealer 1 both work for Aces).
The "Book" Rule: Remind players that a "Book" is a set of all four suits of a single rank. Once you get all four, they are removed from your hand and added to your score.
Winning: The game ends when all 13 books (52 cards) have been completed. The player with the most books wins.
