Scramble - Player Command Guide
The Game Cycle
The Scramble game runs on an automated loop in the #Scramble channel. Once a word is solved (or the timer runs out), a new word will appear shortly after.
The Scramble: The bot presents a jumbled word (e.g., Unscramble ---> r e m l a b s c).
The Clue: If nobody solves it within 20 seconds, the bot fetches a real-world definition from an online dictionary and displays it as a hint.
Letter Reveals: If the word remains unsolved, the bot will slowly reveal the first few letters one by one until the time is up.
Player Commands
(Simply Type the Word) Action: Submit your guess.
Details: You don't need a special command to guess. If you think you know the word, just type it in the channel. If you are correct, the bot will announce your victory with a random celebratory phrase and award you a point.
!top10 Action: View the leaderboard.
Details: Displays the top 10 players with the highest scores in the channel. Scores are saved permanently, even if the bot restarts.
Staff & Administrative Commands
These commands are restricted to Channel Operators (+o), Half-Ops (+h), or Bot Masters.
!scramble Action: Manually starts the game loop.
Details: Use this if the game has been stopped or if it didn't start automatically on server join.
!stop Action: Halts the game.
Details: Stops the current word and prevents the next word from being picked. Use this to pause the game for channel maintenance or quiet time.
How Scoring Works
Every correct unscramble earns you 1 point.
Scores are tracked by your IRC Nickname.
If a word isn't guessed after all hints are revealed, the bot reveals the answer, and no points are awarded for that round.
Pro-Tips for the Web Guide:
The "Ghost-Timer" Fix: This script is built with a "Self-Healing" timer logic. If a word gets skipped or the bot lags, the script is designed to "kill" old timers and restart the loop to ensure the game never gets permanently stuck.
Hidden Words: To keep things fair, if a dictionary definition contains the target word itself, the bot automatically replaces it with *** so it doesn't give the answer away!
Fast Fingers: There is a short delay (15 seconds) between words to give everyone a chance to breathe and check the leaderboard.
